According to both NEC® 400.10 and OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1926.405, strain relief must be provided for flexible cords or cables. This is necessary to prevent pulling forces from straining joints, such as wire nuts and crimp fittings, and terminal screws. This prevents conductors from separating and causing damage or shorts to the circuit.
