How did we put man on the moon before we knew it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

How did we put man on the moon before we knew it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

This question was posed the other day and it got me thinking about the hundreds of little, seemingly meaningless ways we can improve both ourselves and our businesses by thinking small. Recently, I bought a new car and was pleased that the brand I'd been buying had decided to bring back the tiny sun glass case that flips down behind the rear view mirror. It was eliminated from my last car,  but now it's back. "You wouldn't believe how many complaints we got when they took it away." Said the salesman. Really. Something that simple?

The dealership that I go to washes my car and offers "free" food when you go in for service. I put free in quotations because everybody know that nothing is for free. But this organization makes you feel like it is.

And, how about the biggest and truest freebie of all  - being nice to people. It won't cost you a dime. I find that I frequently boomerang back to restaurants, stores and service establishments that smile and greet me well. Don't you? For years Disney owned this formula. They killed you with niceness to the point where you'd empty your wallet into theirs and be glad to do it. Nothing complicated here.

So go on. Dream big, think big. But don't leave a thousand great small ideas on earth while you are making your way to the moon.
