If you think you’re seeing the word “electrification” more often these days, you’re right. It might seem confusing that addressing energy use means using more electricity, but that’s exactly what’s happening as more people are turning to plug power – and away from fossil fuels – for driving, cooking, clothes drying and water heating.

Arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) protection is now a requirement in most areas of a home, and it’s not difficult to understand why the National Electrical Code (NEC) makes this demand. Basically, a lot of us don’t pay a whole lot of attention to what – and how – we plug into our wall outlets, and this can lead to serious fire risks over time.

Today’s homes, no matter the date of construction, have one thing in common. Scads of electronic devices populate our personal domiciles, even those of us “old folks.”
