| New 2020 National Electrical Code Requirements require a Type 1 or Type 2 SPD to protect all service supplying dwelling units. A Type 1 SPD is a permanently connected Surge Protective Device installed between the service transformer and the line side of the main service equipment, as well as the load side of the main service equipment. A Type 2 SPD is a permanently connected Surge Protective Device installed on the load side of the main service equipment ONLY. A Type 3 SPD (a point-of-use Surge Protective Device) does not fulfill the new requirements. |
