Wastewater treatment applications require durable protective raceways that can withstand corrosion, as humidity or moisture can cause standard metallic conduits to corrode over time. Aluminum or stainless steel varieties are often used in these types of environments, making Types ALT, ATSS, ATXSS, LTSS, and ZHSS ideal solutions, solving corrosion-related problems.
Type ALT is a liquidtight flexible conduit constructed of an inner corrosion-resistant aluminum core, with a flexible PVC jacketing on top. It is lightweight, sunlight resistant, and resistant to oils and mild acids.
Types ATSS, ATXSS, LTSS, and ZHSS offer a corrosion-resistant stainless steel core, with either a flexible PVC, thermoplastic rubber, or zero-halogen polyurethane jacketing. Each of these specialty conduits offer solutions to design challenges, such as extreme high/low temperatures (ATSS, ATXSS), zero-halogen (ZHSS), or oil-resistant applications. These conduits are all sunlight resistant and are manufactured to UL 360 dimensions.
Wastewater installations may also require conduits that are rated for hazardous locations, as pumping stations and closed interior locations may produce flammable gases. Type LA is a general purpose, jacketed metallic, UL listed, CSA certified flexible conduit that is rated for hazardous locations (Class 1, Div. 2, Class II, Div. 1 & 2, Class III, Div. 1 & 2). It offers a hot-dipped galvanized steel core with a flexible PVC jacketing that is sunlight and oil resistant.
Nonmetallic varieties that are also rated for hazardous locations include Types NM and NMHT. Both are UL listed and CSA certified, Type B nonmetallic, and made of a spiral of rigid PVC reinforcement embedded within the flexible PVC wall. Type NMHT is the high temperature alternative to Type NM.
