Motor Control Centers That Minimize Arc Flash

Motor Control Centers That Minimize Arc Flash

Chuck Ross

Anytime a device brings together three-phase electrical supplies in a confined area, the risk of arc flash rises. An arc flash occurs when uncontrolled energy moves between phases, from phase to ground or phase to neutral. If that phrase “uncontrolled energy” sounds ominous, it’s with good reason. Arc flash-related deaths and severe injuries occur daily in the United States, and reducing their occurrence has become a major goal for electrical-equipment manufacturers.
