Cable Pulling Solutions

Large or long cable pulls can be costly and time-consuming and, without the proper tools and equipment, sometimes difficult, back-straining work.

Encore Wire offers two solutions most contractors might want to know about.

The first is the company’s Reel Payoff spool+pallet construction that can handle thousands of feet of copper or aluminum wire cable from 8 AWG to 1000 KCMIL thickness on a self-spinning wooden reel mounted onto a pallet.

The product’s reel legs lock the inner flange of the reel in place during transit and loading, and work as chocks off the pallet. The legs can be removed simply by taking out a 9/16-inch bolt.

Using the Reel Payoff from the pallet mounted position means no jack-stand is need-ed, and allows the pull straight from the pallet without any further tools. Polymer spacers and larger reels means the Reel Payoff can reduce incoming pulling tension by up to 50 percent. Having the reel shipped on a pallet, which is then effectively used as a “stand” or “base” for the pull, offers significant savings in labor time, pull time, clean-up and set-up time.

Another popular product from Encore is the company’s MC Barrel Pack, which is essentially cable shipped pre-wound inside a metal clad barrel. With this system, no extra tools are needed as the barrel offers an instant payoff system; simply place the barrel in the middle of a room and wire can be paid out anywhere along a 360-degree radius. The barrel can be maneuvered using any industrial dolly or cart.

Encore claims its proprietary packaging techniques result in a smaller container, with 10 percent more cable footage inside the same-sized container as competitors products. The MC Barrel Pack’s footprint, is smaller than a traditional cable reel, the manufacturer adds, leaving more space in trucks and on warehouse floors.

Taken altogether, Encore claims the MC Barrel Pack can reduce pull time by up to 55 percent, clean-up time by 45 percent, and set-up time by some 71 percent.
