Don't
Argue, Just Fix It
By Bill Floyd
An awkward situation arises
and you are definitely right .. the customer is wrong.
It happens, he screwed up - miswired the equipment you
sent - used it in an area he wasn't supposed to, etc.
Or, maybe you're doing service work for him and he
miscalculated installation time and he's mad at you
because you're way over his budget. He can't justify the
extra cost and he's giving you all kinds of reasons why
its YOUR fault. He's pointing fingers, you're pointing
fingers .. you're both dug in. What now? ...more

Getting
a Handle on Hazardous Locations
By Debbie McClung
The National Electrical Code designates hazardous locations
and has established classification systems for
determining the use of special equipment designed to
reduce the risk of explosions. There are two independent
classification systems, and all hazardous location
products are required to list applicable designations on
the equipment. One system described in Article 500 of
the NEC, divides all hazardous locations into Classes,
Divisions and Groups. ...more

What's
New in Fire Protection Equipment
By William & Patti
Feldman
New technologies in fire protection equipment include
addressable fire alarm control panels and
synchronization of strobes during alarm activation.
Addressable fire panels feature unique addresses for
each detector on the loop. "Unlike conventional
panels which upon activation alert a fire department
that a detector somewhere on the circuit responded,
addressable fire panels identify which detector
activated, providing pinpoint accuracy to the fire
department," said Gene Pecora, General Manager of
Honeywell Power Products, part of the Honeywell Life
Safety Group. ...more

Ultimate
Hazardous Location Safety
By Debbie McClung
Electrical equipment can be a potential source of
ignition thro ugh
arcs and sparks, high temperatures and electrical
equipment failure.
Protection against explosion in hazardous locations
requires that all equipment that could be exposed to the
flammable or combustible atmospheres be labeled as the
type suitable for installation in those locations. In
addition, intrinsically safe circuit wiring terminals
and equipment is marked "Intrinsically Safe." ...more
