Are Your Wall Receptacles Properly Finished?

Wall receptacles are required to be securely installed. They also have to be mounted to extend through the receptacle cover or at least be flush with the cover. The receptacles are sandwiched between the receptacle box and the cover and the final finishing touches are dependent on all three.

The receptacle box is the foundation. If it's loose, it prevents a secure receptacle. Aroudn the edges of the box, the NEC will allow only up to 1/8 inch gap between the wall surface and the box. ...more

Selecting Outdoor Receptacle Covers

The traditional outdoor receptacle cover is being replaced by one having a wet location rating even when an attachment plug is being used. The traditional cover only retained its weather-proof rating when the receptacle access door was closed.

Generally the code has three levels of wetness: Dry, Damp, and Wet. NEC paragraph 406.8 explains the difference. ...more
