Commercial Garage Lighting Update

Commercial Garage Lighting Update

Peter Walsh, PE

Lighting for commercial garages has progressed from basic LED efficiency, to desirable wireless control features. A typical old 175 watt metal-halide design using 213 watts can be replaced by an LED luminaire consuming only 63 watts. The old luminaire required re-lamping every 1.5 years versus 10 plus years with new LED designs.

The old design and the early LED designs depended upon relays to control the lighting.
