At the Sharper Image store, I saw a body fat analyzer.

Didn’t that used to be called a mirror?

This Month Features: Schneider Electric SMART eCat

With the popularity of the Internet, the world has changed. SMART eCAT is now one new important way.  Each month we will feature a new manufacturer’s electronic SMART eCAT that will show how looking up products and using manufacturer’s catalogs have never been easier. This “eCatalog Collection” now also appears on our distributor partner and manufacturer rep’s websites as well. We encourage you to look for these there and deal with the companies with which you already have close relationships and work hard to serve your everyday needs.

Taking the Heat Out of Motor Control Centers
Chuck Ross

Motor control centers (MCCs) are an essential element in today’s modern manufacturing environments. Since their origin in the 1930s as a means for ganging the controls for multiple motors into a central location, motor control centers have become significantly more complex, incorporating communications and safety functions, along with basic controls. As a result, MCCs can become space hogs in some manufacturing floors, and the heat generated inside each control module can necessitate expensive cooling arrangements.

Sensor Controlled LED Security Lighting
James R. Dukart

RAB Lighting has introduced its Smart Bullet® security light, combining paired high-performance LED bulbs with the company's top-performing sensor technology.

Featuring two adjustable 12 Watt LED floodlights equivalent to 150 Watt halogen floods, the new light is intended to reduce electric bills, is Energy Star certified and qualifies for rebates. Its 100,000-hour LED lifespan, based on IES LM-80 results and TM-21 calculations, also means re-lamping requirements are reduced dramatically compared to incandescent, CFL and HID light sources.

Motor Control Centers That Minimize Arc Flash
Chuck Ross

Anytime a device brings together three-phase electrical supplies in a confined area, the risk of arc flash rises. An arc flash occurs when uncontrolled energy moves between phases, from phase to ground or phase to neutral. If that phrase “uncontrolled energy” sounds ominous, it’s with good reason. Arc flash-related deaths and severe injuries occur daily in the United States, and reducing their occurrence has become a major goal for electrical-equipment manufacturers.
