Another New Year!
The end of the year……out with 2018 and in with 2019! A key stepping stone for the Electrical Industry happened on December 31, 1879, as Thomas Edison gave the first public demonstration of his incandescent light bulb. We’ve come a long way since then. Moving into January, other interesting firsts include:

So, what does ElectricSmarts have planned for 2019? Plenty, including:
- The 1st Tournament of Roses took place in Pasadena, California, January 1, 1886.
- The 1st US Income Tax began January 1, 1862 with 3% of incomes over $600
- The 1st Superbowl was January 15, 1967, at the LA Coliseum, Green Bay vs Kansas City
Of all the January celebrations, my favorites include two rather strange holidays:
- January 1 – National Bloody Mary Day
- January 31 – Hell is Freezing Over Day (This one could be useful at times!!)
Based on the fact that most people diet during the 1st week of January, or set exercise goals during the 1st week of January or set New Year Resolutions, I have decided to forego all of that and invoke the “National Bloody Mary” Holiday and “Hell is Freezing Over” Holiday. That will definitely work for me. Happy New Year!
