Specifying Starters for More Efficient Operation
Chuck Ross

Starters and other motor controls are like the individual building blocks that go into a motor control center (MCC). Individually, they can be pretty basic devices, but their size, energy use, and communications capabilities can have a big impact on overall MCC functionality and even facility operations. So, while controls might seem like commodity items, it makes sense to take a little extra time to determine your project’s priorities before placing an order.

Explosion Proof Fire Alarm Systems
James R. Dukart

Edwards Signaling has introduced the 116 Series LED Beacon fire alarm system, suitable for use in explosion-proof and hazardous locations such as oil platforms, refineries, granaries and chemical plants.

The UL and cUL (Canadian UL) listed system is for use in Class 1, Division 1 and 2 applications, with a beacon designed for areas requiring high visibility and notification, but requiring little to no maintenance.

Starting Down the Road to Starter Selection
Chuck Ross

Motor control specifiers face a number of decisions when determining which product will be the best fit for their applications. IEC or NEMA standards, across the line or soft starting and whether or not to go with combination-style protection all are questions electrical pros need to understand. Most manufacturers offer a range of options, so the following offers a brief discussion of what advantages each choice can offer.
