How Time Flies!

It’s amazing how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that we were using analog “cylinder” Fax Machines and paper-tape fed Teletype machines to communicate. We were Electrical Industry mavericks competing with state-of-the-art equipment, or at least we thought we were.
I can remember working at Graybar, Los Angeles, around 1980. We had to boot-up the refrigerator sized mainframe every day and hope that it worked. You still had to write orders by hand and pricing meant picking up the phone to call the Manufacturer or Rep. Large quotations were difficult at best, and gathering Catalog Pages, Spec Sheets and other MarCom materials meant visiting the on-site catalog room and hoping that the catalogs were up-to-date. Thankfully we had the “Biddle Book” if we needed 3rd column pricing.
When you were successful and you landed the order, you had to re-enter all information and type up the Purchase Order, send it in, and then try to track and confirm deliveries. Job changes…….forget it! Like I said, amazing how time flies!
