Trivial Pursuit
By Bill Floyd

"But I'm busy!" Sherry loudly let it be known to her office mates. "And Josh keeps piling it on. I'm never going to get this done. I've got database work that's never ending, daily routines and those customers, I wish they'd stop calling. They are driving me crazy - always asking for me to do something to help them out."

"That's it." said James. "Sherry, into my office - NOW!" Sherry slumped a bit at her desk and sheepishly did what she was told. James glared at her and said, "Girl - you are out of control.

Residential Lighting Control
Steve Maurer, IME

New technologies have not only changed the way we control lighting, but how we integrate it into our lifestyle.

In this article, we'll look at current lighting tech used in residential settings. Lighting control isn't just turning fixtures on and off. New lighting control technology includes using ambient light as well.
Early control systems required low-voltage relays and control panels that could be costly to retrofit into existing homes. Therefore, they were used mainly in new construction. New systems are easily retrofitted into existing installations.

Woodhead Offers New Wide-Area Portable LED for Wet Locations
James R. Dukart

Last year, Molex Incorporated unveiled a new wet-location-rated portable LED magnet light under its Woodhead lighting brand, geared toward large-scale outdoor use.

The new light offers contractors and manufacturing personnel a lamp that consumes only 40 watts of power to beam 2700 lumens of output for up to 50,000 hours.

Commercial Lighting Control
Steve Maurer, IME

In the previous article, we talked about residential light control and how it's changed. In this article, we bring in the big guns, commercial and industrial lighting control.

Electric utility bills are high for commercial buildings. And the lion's share of that cost comes from lighting. If you can control the lighting more efficiently, you stand a good chance of lowering electricity charges dramatically.

Utilities Strengthen Defenses Against Increasingly Severe Weather
Thomas & Betts

Weather is the single greatest cause of power outages, and most scientists predict the frequency and severity of extreme weather will continue to increase.

Between 2003 and 2012, seven of the 10 costliest storms in U.S. history occurred, creating almost 700 power outages, each affecting at least 50,000 customers and costing between $18 and $33 billion a year.
