Bridgeport Fittings protects its liquid-tight Cor-Shield straight-line connectors with a coating of polyolefin, offering connectors for use with metallic and non-metallic “Type B” liquid-tight conduit that are free from phthalates, halogens, isocyanates, heavy metals, VOCs and chlorine components.

The company’s zinc die-cast Cor-Shield connectors are suitable for use in direct burial applications including concrete encasement, as well as corrosive environments, and come in three sizes; 3/4-inch, 1-inch and 2-inch diameters.

The combination of zinc die-casting with a polyolefin coating, Bridgeport says, offers the maximum corrosion protection of zinc, shielded by a liquid-tight covering of polyolefin.

Rick Taylor, a product manager for Bridgeport Fittings, says polyolefin offers several advantages over polyvinyl chloride (PVC), including superior chemical, corrosion and UV protection. Taylor also calls polyolefin environmentally friendly and strong, with flexible properties that can resist cracking, abrasion and impact damage.

As compared to PVC, polyolefin can be repaired by heating the surface until the coating flows to repair cracks or abrasions, without the risk of ignition, Taylor adds.

With a salt-spray resistance greater than 2000 hours, Cor-Shield connectors are suitable for use in Class I, Div 2; Class II, Div 1 and 2; and Class III, Div 1 and 2 hazardous locations.

Bridgeport also offers a Cor-Shield polyolefin-coated version of its Mighty-Hold Universal Clamp Strap to secure both cable and conduit. The UCSC series secures EMT, Rigid, IMC, Metallic Liquid Tight, Nonmetallic Liquid Tight, FMC, and Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC conduit, as well AC/MC Cable.
