Citing the need for recessed floor box adjustability as concrete floors are poured and/or flooring is laid atop concrete, Hubbell now offers a new fully adjustable 4-inch round recessed floor box that provides an extra half-inch of post-pour height adjustment. The new box is part of the company’s SystemOne Delivery System product line.

A key feature of the product is an integral, patent-pending adjustable mounting cup that is inserted inside the floor box riser, with teeth at 5/32-inch increments, which allows the cup to be raised to finished floor level; a feature very important if, for instance, a box becomes buried deep in the concrete pour or if flooring material thickness changes are made after the pour.

To install the new recessed floor box, contractors first locate the installation area and connect conduit, then pour concrete, install flooring, cut the top of the box flush with finish flooring and then insert the mounting cup. Turning the cup clockwise allows the sleeve to raise up by 5/32-inch increments until it becomes level with the finished floor level. Devices can then be wired into the cup, and finished with Hubbell’s plated or powder-coated painted recessed floor box covers.

The adjustable mounting cup is the unique feature of the Hubbell CFBS1R4 SystemOne Floor Box product line, and must be purchased separately from each floor box itself. Contractors may find they do not need the adjustability offered throughout each specific location of a floor box on a job, or may opt to buy mounting cups for each location, depending on whether final flooring height is pre-specified and known. The adjustable cup feature is particularly popular and also helpful when final flooring details have not been worked out before concrete is poured.

The CFBS1R4 series recessed floor boxes have the same aesthetic design as the company’s standard 4-inch recessed fire-rated poke-throughs, meaning a common look is possible anywhere in a building, on grade or above.

The high visibility white cup also makes for easy connections, and the entire floor box is UL listed as scrub water compliant. It can be ordered as PVC, stamped steel, stamp steel with  corrosion resistant paint, or cast iron depending on project specs. White-painted multiple open architecture mounting plates are available for power, data and A/V to provide recessed connections where desired.
