Pentair Offers Non-Metallic Trough Applications

Contractors building raceway and running wires in corrosive or hazardous environments might opt for non-metallic trough. Examples include infrastructure work such as roads, bridges, tunnels or airports and commercial applications where chemical, dust or corrosion resistance is needed. Other markets include indoor manufacturing operations, water and wastewater applications. Salt-water or marine applications such as off-shore oil drilling are other applications, as is mining and large construction.

Through Pentair Equipment Protection, Hoffman Enclosures offers fiberglass wiring trough NEMA Type 12 and 3R as well as Fiberglass Feed-Through Raceway, also NEMA Type 12 and 3R.

Both applications/products share common features such as being constructed of pultruded fiberglass polyester covers and bodies, offering temperature and chemical-resistance with no holes or knockouts, Captivated Monel cover screws, oil-resistant gaskets with oil-resistant adhesive, stainless steel flange screws (as needed) and fully sealed seams throughout. The products are lightweight and easily installed, and offer greater resistance to corrosion, dust and hazardous chemicals, but also to electrical discharge within the raceway. The raceway is colored gray both inside and out.

With both products, Pentair offers a wide range of straight sections, tee-fittings, cross-fittings, 45-degree elbows, 90-degree elbows, cut-off fittings, closure plates and box connectors.

Bruna Oliveira, Global Product Manager for Commercial & Wireway Products at Pentair Equipment Protection, sees a growing marketing for non-metallic trough, citing the “non-corrosive, rain-tight and dust-tight” nature of fiberglass raceway and trough as market drivers.

“Some customers choose to use the wire way as a trough by adding closure plates to the straight sections,” Oliveira points out, adding that infrastructure projects and research centers are among the products’ key markets.
