Increasingly, tenants tell building owners and developers that, instead of paying for energy monthly as a fixed cost allocated by square footage, they want direct metering so they pay only for what they use. “With direct metering, energy cost becomes a variable one that a tenant can control,” notes Paul Golden, national manager for tenet sub-metering for Square D PowerLogic.
