By William & Patti Feldman

The 2008 NEC has made modifications and changes that clarify where GFCIs are required.
For multi-family dwellings, each unit with a separate entrance at
ground level must have at least one exterior accessible GFCI receptacle
located no higher than 6 ½ feet above the ground.
Any 20 square foot or larger balcony, deck or porch of a dwelling unit
that is accessible from within that unit must have at least one GFCI
receptacle available within 6 ½ feet above and within the perimeter of
the space.
