New Technology for Hazardous Location Panelboards Peter Walsh, PE New ideas are coming into hazardous location rated equipment. Existing
hazardous location panelboards look mechanical rather than electrical
with dozens of torqued bolts holding on the covers. The new equipment
looks modern, not from the 1800’s. The old designs keep
explosions contained within the enclosure by brute force. The enclosure
is often cast metal that is designed to withstand four times the
predicted explosive force.
