Lighting Life Expectancy
Customers with maintenance headaches are looking for long-life light sources. All the major lamp manufacturers sell extended-life fluorescents. Rated for up to 24,000 hours, these can last a year longer than standard fluorescents (burning 12 hours a day).

Fluorescents Are Causing Less Mercury Pollution
Fluorescent lamps are distributing less mercury into our environment. Now the majority of the large lamp manufacturers have 4-foot lamps available that contain less than 4 milligrams of mercury each. In 1985 a typical 4-foot fluorescent lamp contained 48 milligrams, and then in 1994 the number was reduced to 23. Why the concern about milligrams of mercury? About 550 million 4-foot lamps are disposed of every year.

Reflector Compact Fluorescent Lamps
Using high-efficiency reflector compact fluorescents instead of incandescent R-lamps in recessed downlights and track lights can be a smart move. The new lamps consume as little as a quarter of the electricity while delivering similar light output. Plus, they last up to five times longer, minimizing maintenance.
