The original introduction of GFCIs was plagued with numerous circuit openings that inconveniently disconnected power to important equipment. Changes were made in both GFCIs and typical appliances to reduce nuisance openings. Newer GFCIs won't trip with a ground leakage current of less than 4 milliamps.
