Siemens has come out with a couple of newer advanced Panelboard options for contractors and building maintenance staff.

The first is a Title 24-Compliant PS Lighting Panel intended to meet various disaggregation requirements, with CT provisions for metering segregated loads with P2 panels with up to 400-amp buses in a 20 inch x 7.75 inch Type 1 or NEMA 3R enclosure. The compact CT Provision fits in only 3 inches of unit space and makes it easy to load groups as needed, with nearly unlimited configuration design possibilities. It uses the same fronts as standard P2 panels.

Next, Siemens is now offering new UL 67-compliant barriers to protect against unintended contact with live circuit parts in all its panel boards and load centers. UL 67 not only requires the provision of such barriers, but states that the barriers shall be constructed in such a way that they are easily installable and removable without contacting or damaging bare or insulated live parts.

These enhancements will also meet the new requirements in Section 408.3(A)(2) of the 2017 National Electric Code, but with or without such barriers, Siemens still cautions via its website that electrical equipment should always be in the “off” position prior to any work done inside or in contact with it, and that such work always be done only by a qualified person, with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) worn and with proper work safety procedures being followed.

Finally, Siemens recently introduced its SEM3 Embedded Micro Metering Module, a modular metering solution for energy monitoring, data analysis, and sub billing applications. The module allows for low, medium, and high density metering requirements to be met using just a few standardized components integrated into Siemens Panelboard and Switchboard products.

The module is pre-engineered to integrate into new Siemens Panelboards and Switchboards but has also been designed to be implemented in OEM and retrofit applications as well.

SEM3 also has the flexibility to be installed as a standalone solution with real time data available from the controller’s standard built-in web pages, with two levels of accuracy to meet the market’s differing requirements and price points. This allows operators to meter just the loads needed without excess hardware and space requirements.
