Mersen has come up with two innovations to help companies and contractors identify, categorize, track and troubleshoot fuses for downstream protection.

First, Mersen offers its SmartSpot feature on an expanding range of fuses. SmartSpot is, in essence, an indicator on the face of fuses that turns from silver to red when a fuse is blown or open. The red indicator has been designed to be easy to spot, even in a crowded panel. As the company says, simply remember,

SmartSpot has been added to Mersen’s Amp-Trap 2000 Class RK1 and J and Tri-onic Class RK5 products. These fuses, geared towards the OEM market, offer the most current-limiting capabilities under short circuit conditions while also having the smallest physical footprint to save valuable panel space, according to Mersen. The company’s Amp-Trap 2000 time-delay Class RK1 fuses, A2D-R and A6D-R, are designed to allow facilities and users to upgrade protection levels in older electrical systems equipped with RK1 and RK5 fuse holders.

All products within the SmartSpot product family, Mersen claims, are current-limiting, time-delay fuses that can manage harmless transformer or motor in-rush currents, and will react quickly enough to prevent short circuit damage to equipment, Mersen says, claiming the SmartSpot fuses protect workers and electrical systems while reducing costly facility downtime.

Mersen also offers a Fuse Control program to help companies or contractors consolidate fuse and overcurrent protective devices into a single inventory to improve workplace safety, decrease operating costs, reduce downtime associated with electrical failures, streamline inventory and facilitate electrical code compliance. The Fuse Control program starts with a comprehensive storeroom audit and database analysis conducted by Mersen, which delivers a consolidation report and plan to the customer.
